Fan footage for your tour video or aftermovie
Updated 1 November 2026
To get fan footage for a tour video or aftermovie, set up one upload page per show, ask fans at every stop to send their original videos there, and download the whole collection sorted by show when the tour is over. Your fans are already filming from every corner of the room. Collecting it show by show gives your editor far more angles than one camera person could ever get.
Why use fan footage at all?
Fan clips show the show the way the crowd saw it: from the front row, from the balcony, singing along. That is hard to film with your own crew, and it makes a tour video feel like it belongs to the people who were there. It also costs you nothing extra, because the footage exists already. You just have to ask for it.
How do you set it up for a whole tour?
- Make one event per stop. On aftershow, each show gets its own upload page under your name, so footage from Berlin never ends up mixed with footage from Paris.
- Share the link at every show. Put the QR code on the screen, the link in your bio, and post it in stories after each night. A dynamic QR code printed on merch or banners can point at whichever show is next.
- Let fans pick the show. Your artist page lists your shows, so a fan who finds you a week later can still choose the right night and upload.
A tour needs more than one event, so you will want Pro or Enterprise. Free covers 1 event. Pro is $19.99 a month with unlimited events and 100GB of storage. Enterprise is $49.99 a month with 300GB, for big tours.
How do you sort the clips by song?
On Pro and Enterprise you can add the setlist to each show and tag each file with the song it shows. When you download, you can then get the show as a ZIP with a folder per song, in setlist order, and the untagged files in their own folder. For an editor cutting a tour video, that turns hundreds of clips into something they can actually work with.
You can also mark the clips you like while you watch, and filter the show down to just those before you download.
How do you get the footage to your editor?
You have two simple options:
- Download it yourself. Download a whole show as a ZIP, or only the files you picked. Big downloads come in parts you can resume, so a slow connection does not mean starting again.
- Send a private link. Create a private link for a show and send it to your editor. Anyone with that link can view and download every file of that show without an account. You can add a password if you want.
Either way, the editor gets the original files fans uploaded, not compressed copies, which matters once the footage is cut, cropped and graded.
What makes fans send more footage?
- Ask on stage every night. A short sentence is enough.
- Post the link again the next morning, when people look back at what they filmed.
- Share the best clips during the tour and credit the fans who filmed them. Others notice and send theirs.
- If you want, turn on the public gallery for a show, so fans can browse what others sent.
Do you need permission to use the clips?
It is good practice to credit the fan and to ask before you use a clip in anything commercial, like an ad. If you collect emails at upload, you can reach the fan who filmed a clip you want to use. Fans can always leave that field empty if you do not make it required.
